In 1995, brothers Derek and Deon Steyn, formed a residential property development company called Calgro Homes (Pty) Ltd. The company’s core functions were the development and construction of residential units in the affordable housing and mid-income cluster market. The firm expanded exponentially and with great success, listing on the JSE in 2007 as Calgro M3 Holdings Limited, and still functions as a major driving force in large scale integrated housing developments in South Africa. During their tenure with Calgro Deon was Chief Operating Officer and Derek solely responsible for all new projects. Their passion for transformational community creation through world class engineering and infrastructure building has led to the founding of UrbanDev in 2019 by Derek Steyn. The management team has grown in expertise with the addition of Douw Steyn, Sam Marais and Gary White.
